Did you know some makeup can cause dry eyes, irritate eyes, increase the risk of an infection or cause scratching to your cornea? Eyeliner, false eyelashes or eyelash extensions, as well as mascara can cause irritation to the eyes or the chance of developing infection or bacteria. Be sure to always use caution when applying makeup on/around the eyes and remove all make up off your eyes each night (the buildup of makeup on/around the eyes can cause irritation, redness and swelling). Below are a few other things you can do to keep your eyes healthy while using makeup:
-Immediately stop using eye products that cause irritation.
-Wash your hands before applying eye products.
-Don’t use expired makeup (particularly mascara and eyeliner).
-Be sure to always use clean brushes to apply makeup.
-Avoid putting makeup on the waterline (eyeliner that does on the rim of the eye rather than outside the lashes).
-Never share makeup.
-Avoid using cosmetics if you already have an eye infection or irritation.
-Always apply or remove make up gently, be careful not to scratch the eye.
