Why Is Sleep So Important For The Eyes?

When you picture the stereotypical “tired” person, one of the main descriptors is usually bloodshot, droopy eyes with dark circles underneath. A lack of sleep impacts every facet of your body and functioning, especially your eyes. But in addition to simply being tired-looking, a lack of sleep can have serious effects on your eyes.

In addition to looking tired, skimping on sleep can also lead to eye spasms and twitching, which makes it extremely difficult to function properly throughout the day. Because your eyes did not have enough time to replenish its natural tears, you may experience dry eyes. Lastly, since your eyes were not completely rested, they may feel strained as you go about your day.

Solution?

To put it simply: get to bed! Try to dim the lights and cut down on electronics around an hour before you plan on going to sleep, also consider using night mode on your phone and other apps. This will help your entire body start to wind down and realize that it’s time to go to sleep. With that easy transition, you can more easily drift off to sleep and give your eyes plenty of time to relax.
